Electric guitars aren’t anything new, but this Chameleon Guitar from MIT’s Media Lab student Amit Zoran brings electric guitars very close to their acoustic counterparts. The central section on the Chameleon Guitar, the soundboard, is removable and can be replaced by a soundboard from a different material. A computer in the guitar transforms sound generated by the electronic pickups in the board to create sounds parallel to different size and shape of the resonating chamber. The creator isn’t aiming at the general guitar player with this chameleon, but it’s aimed more at the professionals who would make good use of the guitar’s resources, especially for onstage performances.
