CES 2011: iRobot unveils tablet-controlled AVA telepresence robot

At CES we haven’t seen many telepresence robots before, but this time the famous Roomba maker – iRobot — did so by showcasing the all-new AVA telepresence robot. The self adjustable robot, can alter its height from three to five feet at will, and has a Wi-Fi enabled tablet on top, tapping on which you can command the bot to where it has to go. The AVA is a tablet-controlled (or any Android device-controlled) self-navigating robot, which rolls on a three-wheeled base avoiding all obstacles to map out environments to move from place A to B. For sensors, the AVA bot has the similar Kinect-like PrimeSense sensors, alongside microphones and speakers, laser rangefinders, scanning acoustic sensors and bump sensors for obstacles. iRobot doesn't have a release date for the AVA yet.
