Intel unveiled one extreme and four mainstream Penryn mobile processors, which incorporate company’s new 45-nanometer microprocessor architecture with energy-efficient ‘Deep Power Down’. All of them features Intel’s Core 2 Extreme and Duo brand, ranging from 2.1-GHz to 2.8-GHz, which is almost equivalent to current processors, but Intel has increased the L2 cache size in three of the five processors to 6MB. Further, it can enhance some application tasks via Penryn’s new instruction set, called Streaming Single Instruction and Multiple Data Extensions 4 (SSE4).
Some names like Fujitsu will start the delivery of Penryn-based 15.4-inch A6120, 15.4-inch-E8410, and 17-inch N6470 laptops as early as next week.
