Air Sound is a British company which has made breakthrough in sound engineering by developing a device that can create Stereo sound effect from single speaker box. Stereo or Stereophonic sound is traditionally reproduced using two or more independent channels, using two ore more sources.
Air Sound was founded by recording engineer Ted Fletcher for the same cause. He used the theories patented by Alan Blumlein of UK in early thirties. His patent theories related to stereo had around 70 claims and in total he had 128 patents to his name.
Air Sound first adds the 2 channels, and then subtracts these 2 channels from each other. Sum of 2 channels is fed to front speaker and difference feeds are sent to cones on left and right of the box. When these sum and difference sounds are reproduced in the room, it gives a effect of using two different sources as in case of stereo systems. iPod Dock is their first offering two the world which uses the works of a legendary electronics engineer. It will be available soon in market for $400. Air Sound says that their main aim is to license this technology to bigger market players.
