One of the most annoying problems with the rear projection TVs (RPTV) is the need to have an ultimate replacement of the bulb. The currently employed technique of using LED by many companies adds to the total costs.
Well, Panasonic, at the CES 2007 show, displayed their new light engine dubbed ‘LIFI‘ that has been developed by using converted High Intensity Discharge lamps. Philips further added that this new technology will help to keep the costs lower.
The LIFI lamp is claimed to last as long that you may never need to change it. Owing to the small bulb size, boot times will be reduced and the image will be displayed approximately six times quicker. Panasonic claims that its brightness will never grow fainter and its continuum of light will bring a wide range of colors.
Though there is no info about the pricing, the LIFI TVs will come in sizes of 50″, 56″ and 61″ in the Q2 this year featuring 720p to the most wanted 1080p.
