I have spent long hours outside the Intensive Care Units, only to helplessly wait there with nothing as latest from inside, where the feeble patient lay. Doctors have a hard time taking due care of the suffering, and often the result is patient’s succumbing to their fate. I think these seven students from the Department of Information Management of Ming Chuan University know how it feels being there on the door. They have developed a project - Spring for Intensive Care Unit (ICU) – which helps the paramedics grasp patient’s information on their cellphones.
What’s innovative:
The project is designed to transmit patient’s information to the live image functions of the cellphones that would help them know of the patient’s condition on ventilation. The cellphone transmission system has three major functions of “instant diagnosis,” “instant observation,” and “emergency location system.” On software installation the doctors can keep a vigil on the patient’s condition, write diagnoses and also report history on the cellphone interface itself.
Watch this:
Spring for Intensive Care Unit software by Hu Chin-wei and his classmates could be a helping hand for the doctors, who spend time in writing patient details when their patient’s struggling to survive. The project bagged the top honor of 3G Digital Life Group in 2008 Chunghwa Telecom Application Contest, winning a $300,000 prize.
