Who could have ever imagined that these itsy-bitsy CD-drives can one day emerge as a new weapon against bio-terrorism? In fact, the laser in CD-drive can easily detect anthrax within a minute. A CD based sensor developed by Swinburne University’s Chancellery Research Fellow, Dr. Cameron Jones have opened up a new era in the field of on-site detection and evaluation of potentially dangerous substance. The laser technology is used to digitally comprehend the properties of anthrax and other substance.

The fingerprint of anthrax bacteria is stored inside the device through which it easily detects its presence. Blending biology with computing, the laser technology aims at taking molecular computing to a new altar and could affect other fields including engineering, health and design.
