Thing big and then think monstrous. You will end up visualizing Caterpillar’s 1.4 million pound twin behemoths – mining trucks that would need a separate super-heavy segment to be categorized. Autonomous control vehicles that they are, CAT’s mining trucks are expected to address safety and productivity issues like never before. The bigger among the two is 797B, a giant rock hauler with a capacity of 380 tonnes. And don’t be deceived by its enormous size. Despite weighing 1,375,000 pounds, it can easily top 42mph by virtue of an equally monstrous 3550hp 24 cylinder (‘V’) CAT 3524B engine that displaces 117 liters.
Pricing and Availability: CAT’s mining trucks are priced at $5 million to $6 million.
Watch This: The world’s biggest truck - the 797B - and its relatively smaller sibling had their credentials established even before the world started talking about them. In an era where ‘big’ sells, these monster trucks certainly belong to an elite club of extraordinary machines with a tendency to make jaws drop.
Word around the Web:
Stone Martindale from Monstersandcritics says:
It is a groundbreaking design on a groundbreaking scale. Imagine a truck the size of a two-story house, rolling by on 14-foot-high tires that weigh five and a half tons each.
