CMU lads have always floored us with their robotic instincts and the prospective creations they pop up each time. Now, with the inspirational “BowGo,” the Carnegie Mellon University’s Robotic Institute may have outdone their own selves to an extent. The BlowGo is a new kind of a pogo stick that uses a fiberglass bow of high tensile strength to bounce a guy from one place to another.
The BowGo is capable of jumping as high as 8 feet, deriving this springiness from the fiber-reinforced composite bow, which stores about five times the elastic energy per unit of mass as a steel coil spring. A human-size bow leg, the BowGo will be displayed in Pittsburgh at the Pogopalooza from August 19-22. All those visiting, just gear up for some real high-flying action, I say.
