The deft little Pixma iP100 is the latest offering by photography giant Canon, and just in case you were thinking this “portable” photo printer was just the thing you needed to have in your backpack every time you have to leave home, think again. Though Canon themselves describe the thing as the ideal accessory for “business people on the road and style-seeking home users”, I find this giant weighing 2kgs to be anything but easily portable. Though the gorgeous little thing is definitely impressive with its enhanced ‘Fine print head’ and new five color ink system that spits out improved picture quality, its weight certainly leaves enough room for doubt in our minds. Sure it will pop out a standard 10 x 15cm borderless photo print in less than a minute, and sure you can just plug in your camera via USB/Wireless/Bluetooth and have spankily finished photos almost instantly, but is that really worth lugging this thing around, especially when you also have other essentials like your laptop, iPod, PDA/cellphone, camera apart from your suitcase or briefcase to carry around as well? Your guess is as good as mine! The Pixma iP100 starts shipping mid-may so you still have time to hit the gym if you don’t wanna blow £199 bucks on this baby for nothing.
