Cable remote controlled CCTV to help monitor drainpipes

Posted By: Jaiyant Cavale | Jul 24 2008

China is turning into one of the most CCTV controlled countries in the world. The latest to hit the country's surveillance system is the cable remote controlled CCTV. The government is trying to ensure the drainpipes continue to work perfectly during the Olympics and this could be the reason why this CCTV has been put in place. Qinghe Wastewater Reclamation Plant, which unveiled the new CCTV system for drainpipes, demonstrated how it works. A mechanized crawler carries lights and the digital camera send back data from the drainpipe to the computer in real time. The crawler can turn at right angles, clear the pipe from clogging, and even repair the inner surface. The system has already inspected and investigated 917 kilometers of drainpipes near the Olympic venues and seems to be a successful method.
