No doubt, Sony’s latest Blu-ray Vaio delivers excellent video, but the poor battery life and excessive price tag are unacceptable, observes Business Week’s Arik Hesseldahl.
The downside of the new debutant in the format war, including its whopping $3,500 cost, is its feeble battery that surprisingly ran down to less than 20% in about 30 minutes while playing movie. What’s the use of the watching gorgeous movies on the Blu-ray player in that case? According to Arik, the battery runs out in just two hours even when you are not playing the disc. Now, that is disgusting.
Anyway, the rest of the specifications, including the 2 gigahertz Intel Core Duo processor, NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600GT, Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition, TV tuner, 200-gigabyte hard drive, S-Video and HDMI out connectors, are quite remarkable.
In spite of that, does it make sense shelling out $3,500 for Blu-ray, when you can get an excellent desktop with same technical specifications for much less?
Thanks: Arik Hesseldahl
