Build Smart, Live Smart: Fusing life into buildings...real life!

Technology is advancing very rapidly and has managed all luxuries as intelligent and comfortable interiors e.g. light system, smart air conditioning systems, etc. the same time, the need of smart home is emerging. Now the architects are experimenting with the structures that change their shapes in accordance with weather conditions.

The responsive structures are the destination that observe their internal and external environment and change figures to outfit any situation. The building that cops the living system would be capable of sensing external conditions like winds, temperature variations, changing sunlight, etc and adjusting to that of interior.

Tristan d'Estree Sterk, an architect is working on shape-changing "building envelopes" with "actuated tensegrity" structures. The system of rods and wires works with the help of pneumatic "muscles" that serve as the building's skeleton, shaping the structure of all its walls.

Sterk wants to develop a smart structure that is light, strong and able of make extensive shape changes that use a less amount of energy.

Sterk says:

By using an exoskeletal, actuated tensegrity superstructure, the building lets wind blow through it, reducing harmful shaking and swaying. The frame also swivels and twists gently in the wind to control the building's center of gravity since it doesn't rely on its own weight to hold it in place; this allows architects to build taller and more sustainably.
