GPS has invaded almost all devices including mobiles and cars and now it’s time for the ubiquitous television signals to be in sync with the constellation of 24 satellites, that basically forms the worldwide radio-navigation system, fulfilling the dream of anytime, anywhere positioning based on TV signals.

TV-GPS, developed by Rosum Corporation in Redwood City, California and GPS giant Trimble, is the latest technology that aims at eliminating the poor performance with respect to GPS reception indoors and in urban areas. TV-GPS works on a different platform capturing commercial TV broadcast signals which are considered at least 2,000 times stronger than the GPS satellite transmission.

The technology will harness the signals via Trimble’s chip utilizing the TV antennas concentrated in a particular area. The portable and easily deployable technology can be effectively used for fleet tracking, asset tracking, people tracking, public and personal safety and homeland security.
