Times have returned when reading a book with a walkman in your years is far more hip and happening than just carrying a big and loud box of music and shaking violently to its tunes. Modern world prefers that hybrid look between the intelligent reader and the cool music listener. That is just the in-thing these days, especially when you are on the road. But what if your book could be your music machine and do it in a way that is almost invisible to the rest of the world? That is exactly what this amazing little ‘Book Radio’ does in a very special way.
The book radio is designed to be a simple incarnation of a digital radio in the form of a regular looking sketch book. It allows the user to experience radio in a new way by being able to scan radio channels just like flipping the pages, book mark radio stations and also annotate favorite programs by actually writing on to the relevant pages. Sliding the bookmark in or out changes the volume. The entire device is wireless and can be moved around the home and has no visible technological aspects like screens, dials or buttons. This not only means portable comfort but also pages to take notes while listening!

Designed by Vinay Venkatraman and Pei Yu at the Interaction Design Institute Ivrea, the book radio is something that is both special and unique and amalgamates the modern with the traditional. What is most impressive about it is the fact that it has such a simple and common look that you would never suspect what lay on the inside. Using powerful micro-controller, they have created a new function to the age old form in a grand new fashion!
