Created by Sussex based model-maker Tony Nijhuis in his garage, the “Boeing B-50 Superfortress” is a scale version of the US 1950s bomber with 20ft wingspan. Claimed to be the world’s biggest DIY electric aircraft, the B-50 integrates four electric motors, powered by 96 batteries, allowing a thrilling ride that unfortunately lasts for eight minutes only, as it needs to recharge its batteries for next flight. Costing £8,000 (about $10,671), the electric aircraft is made in balsa wood and plywood, together with a workable bomb bay doors and pneumatic landing gear. Featuring elevator control, rudder control and pneumatically operated under carriage, the aircraft is restricted to just 400ft high, though sustainable, flight. Check out the video after the jump.
