Blu-Ray aims to wipe out DVD era in three years
The Blu-Ray disc association has stated that they will oust DVDs in the next three years after that the trend of the market will be just Blu-Ray.

Blu-Ray offers five times more storage capacity than DVDs and can be used for storing HD content as well. Blu-Ray will also have to beat its rival HD DVD format, before it can rule the markets.
HD DVD offers somewhat lower storage capacity than DVDs but they claim that HD DVD players and disks are cheaper than Blu-Ray.
If we compare the number of Blu-Ray and HD DVD players that have been sold, then Blu-Ray is much ahead in the count. The reason is that Sony is shipping its new PS3 equipped with Blu-Ray players.
Sony has commented that it has sold 1.84 million PS3s by the end of 2006 and another 1 million are being shipped to Europe.
HD DVD camp has stated that Blu-Ray exceeds them by a ratio of five to one, but comparing the movie titles there is not much difference between the two.
Five out of eight Hollywood biggies also prefer Blu-Ray than HD DVD.
But still Microsoft and Toshiba are the main backers of HD DVD and till the time they prefer the format, the road of Blu-Ray is not as easy as it may seem.
