Blanview LCD panel needs no backlighting outdoors
Most LCD panels require backlighting when used outdoors, which increases the consumption of power tremendously. Casio Computer Co Ltd has developed a new type of transmissive LCD panel, which does not need backlighting outdoors. It increases the transmittance of the panel by 30% and reduces power consumption by 50%. A normal transmissive LCD panel, which can be used outdoors, consumes a large amount of power. However, The Blanview LCD Panel has an increased aperture ratio and has a different optical design, which changes the spectral characteristics of the colour filter to turn white. The colouration problem was solved using an amorphous Si (a-Si) TFT and TN liquid crystals. This results in enhanced transmittance and a clear visibility outdoors. There are three models, the 2.7- and 3.5-inch vertical models (240 × 320 pixels), the 3.5-, 4.1-, and 5.7-inch horizontal models (320 × 240 pixels) and the 6.5-inch horizontal model (640 × 480 pixels). All the models will be shipped from July 2008.
