The rumor that Apple MacBook Air laptops will get black options in their next major upgrade is spreading like wildfire on the Web. MacRumors recently carried a post that predicts Apple MacBook Airs may be available in black options when they are upgraded next time. The laptops from Apple have been speculated to receive upgrades in July 2011.

The revamped MacBook Airs will have Intel Sandy Bridge processors and Intel high-speed Thunderbolt connectivity standard as key features, rumors suggest. Apple has been reportedly holding release of MacBook Air upgrades until Mac OS X Lion came out of the shell. Apple has announced its next-gen Mac OS at the Worldwide Developer Conference 2011 early this month.
Currently, Apple deploys aluminum case for its MacBook Air laptops. It looks like that Apple is on efforts to use black anodized aluminum case with its MacBook Airs models for a black finish, the MacRumors report says. No doubt, there are several customers looking forward for black MacBook Air laptops. Similar to the white iPhone 4 frenzy, there remains a huge demand for black MacBook Airs in the market.
Meanwhile, within hours after publishing the black MacBook Air story, MacRumors posted a follow-up on it, which says Apple has “tried and failed” to design a black MacBook Air. The second story refers to an e-mail allegedly sent by an Apple employee, who explains that Apple tried to “powder coat” MacBook Airs in black as a test run, but failed.
Though the device looked nice in black color, it absorbed body oils making palm rest a lustrous experience. Thus, Steve Jobs “killed the idea” of powder coating. Yet, he promises the company will continue its efforts to realize a black model in future. Read below the part of mail as published on MacRumors.
The coating looks good and holds up well, but it also soaks up body oils, making the palm rest look pretty gross. Ultimately that is the reason that the top brass (Jobs) killed the idea. It was just too easy to make the computer look like crap. At some point we may offer a black coating, but it won't be powder coat, and it won't be anytime soon.
