The gamers drew affinity to such innovations until now, but what if it were to be true. It could well be a case where a robot assisting a soldier on the battlefield just as in our gaming world, remember the X-2 adventure, could now become a possibility, indeed the development has already begun. It is called the BirdDog in the real world and is currently under development with the US Navy in collaboration with a private research firm, Science Applications International Corporation.
Unmanned vehicles aren’t anything surprising now as the army plans to have one-third of all vehicles on the battlefield as unmanned by 2015. In such a scenario the BirdDog would be an important innovation harmonizing with the former in a thorough manner. The researchers aim to develop the BirdDog to a level where the soldier does not have to operate it, instead, it should be able to self assist the soldier by merely understanding his stance by comprehending his actions on the battlefield. They even aspire to take him to a level where it can quickly assess the terrain and provide the soldier with instant maps to surmount it in various ways.
The aforesaid is what the researchers plan to achieve to extremity but the current focus is on developing it to a level where it can asses the requirements of the soldier on the field and co-ordinate in conveying the same to the main stations.
