Biological and electronic world in a living game computer

Posted By: Madan Lal | Oct 20 2007

Technologies Lab in Athens, Ohio, is set up with departments of game design, electronic and computer engineering, telecommunications and biology to compile Biomodd concept into an imaginative multiplayer game experience. An interdisciplinary team of 15-20 students working on case modding to built a computer, which can recycle the excess heat of processors through an elaborate ecosystem.

Basic Concept

Concept and graphics follows ecological theme to form a multiplayer environment to impart a vision of interaction with the ecosystem than just heat exchange. Further, a feedback system will put the parameters of the developing organisms into the virtual world by using simple forms of robotics to manipulate the ecosystem. It's like talking about a metaorganism that could reside in both worlds simultaneously e.g. Telegarden. New computer game will see computer hardware as its new server.

Prototype

The first prototype developed at Aesthetic Technologies Lab is a human sized transparent structure in varied biological lives like green algae and vines and many suspended computer components. Running on Linux, the monitor will illuminate a bed of fast-sprouting seeds.

Ecological Concern

As an ecological concern not only the biomodd version is disassembled at the end to donate the electronic parts to recycling centers but also provides a conceptual motivation for using parts of previous versions in a new one to strengthen the aspect of linkage between two consequent versions.

Biomodd concept is all about the blend of game, culture, ecology and art of installation displaying the relation between biological and electronic world to explain production and consumption in organic world.
