Beyond innovation: Millimeter wave TV camera captures invisible things

Well, don’t take these things to be ghosts. By invisible I mean, objects that are not visible to mortal’s eye owing to the obstacle in the way. Millimeter-wave TV camera captures the objects using radio waves and not visible light. This is what makes this camera different. So, if there is any object hidden behind fog or plywood, you will be able to see it without any effort from your side. Being developed by NHK's Science and Technical Research Laboratories, the camera emits millimeter waves in the 60GHz band towards the objects, consequently capturing the reflections. The camera then ‘time-separates’ signals that come in from people in the disaster affected area with smoke or fog. This makes it possible that the images of the people in that situation are delivered. The camera is still in prototype stage and is being improved upon.
