Element 14’s well-known electronics modder Ben Heck combines a 1977 Atari gaming console with a brand new Microsoft Xbox 360 console. Mr. Heck developed the new gaming device that superbly joins features of the outdated gaming console and the modern Xbox 360 on request by Atari to salute its hardware-manufacturing past. He was assigned by Atari to make this build to play its latest games and as well to remind its fans of their old school day gaming device.

To form this innovative and old-fashioned gaming console, Heck tore out a new Xbox 360 laptop system. And installed the inner components of the Microsoft’s gaming device to an emptied 1977 Atari gaming console, realizing a fully-functioning and portable Xbox Atari console. This device also has an integrated LCD screen.
Heck kept the original Atari’s wood panelling and metal switches on his new experimental product. Meanwhile, Xbox’s ring of light has been slotted into the Atari joystick to make it more modern and user-friendly. He designed the concept of the system on Adobe Illustrator before shaping up in the original form. Ben Heck describes his experience with creating the device,
I was excited when Atari approached me to build this gaming system – it is the most ‘Ben Heck’ type project I could possibly build. It was a great experience taking consoles from two completely different eras and combining them. That’s what art’s all about!
