iplayer

Within weeks you’d be able to watch BBC programs on your iPod Touch/iPhone. All this would be done by a little player called iPlayer (how original) on Apple’s gizmos, leading to direct streaming of TV on these devices. Of course, iPlayer is already functioning on Mac since last December and with the BBC introducing select TV shows through iTunes, it is but a matter of weeks for the broadcaster to bring on the iPlayer on iPod and iPhone. Ashley Highfield, the director of future media and technology at the BBC, says:

While it’s still early days, early indications are that BBC iPlayer is having a significant effect in attracting new users to bbc.co.uk.

The latest figures put the soaring popularity at 500,000 hits a day on the new and improved webpage of the BBC. Also over 17 million programs have been streamed or downloaded since iPlayer’s launch a mere seven weeks back. Already, BBC is looking to ride iPlayer’s back to become second most popular website after google in the UK.

Look for some interesting developments on BBC’s webpage soon. The media giant has some tricks up its sleeve and it is looking to use each one of them.
