Baand Remote: Interactive touchscreen remote control concept for optimized user comfort

We have witnessed the technological progression of television sets from traditional CRT mechanism to Plasma, LCD and OLED displays. Well, the same can't be said about its everlasting companion i.e., the remote control. With their multitude of buttons and complexity of functions, it would be quite safe to appraise that conventional remotes do not score high on user convenience. But the prevailing situation can be improved by practical yet innovative concepts such as the Baand Remote - an elliptical touchscreen remote conceived specifically for smart TVs.

Conceptualized by design student Kristian Larsen, the band like thin contraption will exhibit a total interactive touchscreen display (instead of physical buttons) for user functionality. To be controlled by just the thumb, the scroll-able touch interface will comprise of the main navigation features. That doesn't necessarily entail the user's concentration to be solely focused on the petite handheld screen. This is because a significant component of the interface will be shifted to the large TV screen, thus facilitating user convenience for channel 'surfing' by direct eye contact with the television; not the tiny remote.

Physical buttons will just be limited to OK, back and forward functions. Other user friendly mechanisms will include full fledged QWERTY keyboard integration with an inherent touchscreen system. This makes typing texts much easier, without the synchronized control from the television setup.

So, overall an advanced concept that hinges on 'back to basics' dictum for optimized user comfort. The adroitness of the design can certainly be better admired when we consider there are around 1.4 billion TV sets in the world, with presumably most of them stuck with those ineffectual remote control systems.
