BAA to introduce TiX facility: World's first automatic checkpoint X-ray
If you remember, the regulations implemented last year in August for hand luggage, according to which you cannot carry more than one item and anything that carries liquid more than 100ml, then you must be familiar with long unending security queues for boarding passengers.

However, Airport operator BAA will introduce an advanced threat identification X-ray - or aTiX facility as a result of ten-year £20million deal with Smith groups to take a lead in passenger processing.
According to Smith,
It is the world's first deployment of a checkpoint X-ray that can automatically detect explosives and liquids in carry-on bags.
Now BAA hopes to increase the flow of passengers with fasten checking procedures through new machines and increasing its staff up to 60 percent of it had earlier. That is expected to consume ten minutes on average for a complete check.
More than 200 advanced scanners can scan bags from four angels, as compared to present system. This system detect banned material by reading the chemical and physical properties of matter like atomic weight and density of materials so that an automatic circular conveyor belt return the security tray concerned if signs of any suspected substances such as inflammable liquids, guns or knives are found.
Presently BAA has got 11 machines installed in the new Terminal 5 at Heathrow and will have them at all seven of its airports, including Gatwick, Stansted and Glasgow after a trial of few months.
Heathrow officials are expecting Around 660 machines at Terminal 5, next March and said,
We are hopeful the machines will support a move back to allowing two carry-on bags.
