Auti for autistic children helps them become more compassionate

Every child is special in his or her own way. Children are very good learners and pick up from their surroundings. They have their small little world which is full of imagination and dreams. But spare a thought about those children who cannot express themselves like other children or are, in other words autistic. A training toy, especially designed for autistic children called Auti by Dr Peter Andreae, an engineer and Helen Andreae, a designer at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, comes to teach positive behavior and develop the imagination of autistic children.

Auti is a quadruped, furry toy that has different programmable sensors that detect touch and sound. It is a mechanized toy suited for children six months and above. Autistic children find it very difficult to deal with other children. As they do not know to express themselves, they often are perceived as violent which can make other children afraid of them.

As they find it difficult to make friends, this fantastic toy has been created to help them out. With the help of sensors this toy feels the child's behavior and as it detects that the behavior is turning negative it automatically shuts down. But as soon as it feels positive touch like cuddling or speaking gently it becomes active. So, in essence this toy encourages the autistic child to become gentler and exhibit positive behavior. This toy has not been commercialized yet but has only been distributed to children of friends and family. Until now, it has got a positive response.
