Austrian students invent 'Safety Shorts' that protect cellphone users from harmful radiations

At first glance, it may seem like a ludicrous gimmick, but radiation proof underwear certainly has more to it than meets the eye. Statistically, there are more than 4.3 billion cell phone users worldwide. And, according to the World Health Organization, cell phones have been classified into the 'possibly carcinogenic' group. Other serious medical related issues such as advancing infertility and impotency may also be linked to long term effects of electronic devices such as laptops and mobile phones. Taking all this into account, a group of Austrian students created this radiation proof underwear that can protect people from such detrimental conditions.

Most of the time, we carry our cell phone in our pants' pocket which is dangerously close to our pelvic region. But the 'Safety Shorts' are made from a special material comprising silver threads which, according to the designers, can deflect up to 99 percent of emitted radiation. This helps in safeguarding against possibly harmful side-effects like loss of sperm count due to exposure to electronic devices.

The conscientious project took the students almost a year to complete but the end results were quite satisfactory as the product has already entered the commercial scheme of things with a price tag of $42 in Austria. And even if you're not perturbed by the potentially unfavorable consequence of long term cell phone usage, one can always do with a new pair of underwear!
