The US military may see yet another interesting aircraft being added to its fleet. Aurora Flight Sciences of Virginia is developing a ducted-fan vertical takeoff aircraft called the Excalibur. Excalibur is a high-autonomy aerial weapons platform, which means the user would be assisted by the awe-inspiring technology. The aircraft is light thanks to its innovative electrical driven turbine-generated juice. The winged hovership can carry a single human passenger who doesn’t need to be a professional pilot, either. With features such as vertical takeoff, range, and hands-off piloting, this one could be an interesting toy for the military.
Price and Availability: Aurora plans to build a trial craft by the end of the year, and if it is successful, the company may try to sell larger Excaliburs to the army. The price isn’t known yet, perhaps because the company is still in the process of developing the craft.
Watch This: The army may not need the vehicle immediately but considering the risk factors involved in a combat situation, the Excalibur could prove to be a great choice. This we say because it is a high-autonomy craft and does not require the human passenger to be well trained in piloting and flying aircrafts.
Word around the web:
Lewis Page from The Register says:
Aurora has so far seen the Excalibur functioning in normal times as an attack craft, packing such traditional killbot favourites as the Hellfire missile and Viper Strike pocket-size smart glider bombs.
