Asus taps the thin space with ultra-thin U series notebooks

Posted By: Bharat BhushanSharma | May 5 2009

Thin and lightweight notebooks are the new way in. Having made intentions of delivering 1-inch thick Eee PC 1008HA clear already, Asus has revealed a new U series of ultra-thin notebooks to further stabilize itself in the thin ranks across all makers, hope Apple takes the hint there. Donning larger display screens, 12.1, 14, and 15.6-inch to be precise, the three new models from the series will be Intel powered (from Pentium to Core 2 Duo processors) with optimal processing power to handle all demanding tasks and software.

The Asus U series will be equipped with Altec Lansing speakers featuring SRS Premium Sound, 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR. For memory the notebooks will be fitted with up to 4GB of DDR2 RAM and hard disks ranging up to 500GB 2.5” SATA drives. With interactive touchpads on some models, the notebooks will also have energy efficient LED backlit displays, along with graphics ranging from Intel's GMA 4500MHD to Nvidia's GeForce G 105M GPU or AMD's ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570. Compatible with Windows Vista and Linux OS there is no word on the price tags for the notebooks.
