Some time ago, we heard Creative was launching a videophone, and this time around, Asus has launched a videophone itself. One of the advantages of having a videophone is the ability to make video calls even when there isn’t a computer around. Asus’s AiGuru SV1 is a follow-up to the voice-only S1. It packs an 800 x 600 pixel 7-inch LCD, integrated speaker and mic, a VGA-quality web cam, among many other features. Connecting to the Internet is a breeze thanks to 802.11b/g WiFi or Ethernet.

Price and Availability: The AiGuru SV1 costs $300 and will start shipping across Europe and North America in October.

Watch This: The SV1 could help you make video calls using Skype, and in fact Skype has appreciated the videophone itself. The battery also lasts for a good long while and if you are really into making video calls, this might really help you.

Word around the Web:

Kit Eaton at Gizmodo:

“Skype video calling just got a lot more Grandma-friendly with Asus’ new AiGuru SV1.”
