Many gadgets and technologies have been developed to assist visually impaired to rejoice worldly pleasures. Taming the concept of wearable technology as an extension of our sensory system, to assist the blind, industrial design students Mayo Nissen, Filippo Cuttica and Li Bian at CIID have come up with a very novel assistive scarf, which is good enough an alternative for the cane. Integrated with ultrasonic sensors, the scarf like the cane itself, detects objects in the pathway, signal of which is communicated to the wearer’s neck via the scarf’s vibrating motors, defining efficiently the proximity and direction of the obstacles.
