Computer algorithms are exhilarating at times especially when they have some surprises in store for us! Like, this latest mathematical program designed by Haifa University facilitates computers to identify artwork, thus classifying each and every painting.
This newest software can help an amateur identify between a fake and an authentic painting, saving you from those extra time-consuming credential chores. Should I say cracking the ‘Da Vinci’ code is a cakewalk now? This unbelievable mathematical program has been researched at the Department of Computer Sciences at the University of Haifa, which judges the difference between an original Leonardo da Vinci and its fake facsimile.
I guess, through an ‘AI interface,’ this computer enables to spot the artists by carefully scrutinizing drawings of nature, people, flowers and other scenes through a series of mathematical symbols, sines and cosines, thanks to the good old Trigonometry!
Prof. Daniel Keren, the key developer, opines that -
The field of computer vision is very complex and multifaceted. We hope that our new development is another step forward in this field. As soon as the computer learns to recognize the clock drawings of Dali, it will recognize his other paintings, even without clocks. As soon as the computer learns to recognize the swirls of Van Gogh, it will recognize them in pictures it has never seen before.
