Posted By: Vikas Shekhawat | Apr 24 2006

Though science has failed to melt down the darkness within, it has achieved awesome breakthroughs in the world of artificial vision. Intelligent Medical Implants AG (IMI) in conjunction with its subsidiary IIP-Technologies GmbH, has shown a ray of hope to the global blind community with its latest 'Learning Retinal Implant' technology that enabled patients to see light along with simple patterns through a wireless transmission of data and energy.

Complete wireless transmission is used for the first time to achieve successful artificial vision on the basis of neurostimulation. The 'intelligent' Learning Retinal Implant will even help patients with hereditary degenerative retinal diseases such as Retinitis Pigmentosa or Age-Related Macular Degeneration.
