‘Artificial Intelligence’ has fascinated one and all. For all you know, the next episode in this wonderful aspect of science has just begun. If scientists from COSPAL (a project sponsored by the EU) are to be believed, the world’s first robot with AI has arrived. With intelligence equivalent to a 2-3 yr old human baby, the robot combines the two traditional philosophies of AI Sytems design. One is assigning an AI a set of rules, based on which decisions are taken, and the second is the neural network. Here, the AI learns the rules and adapts (and reacts) to the evironment in a proactive manner. The adaptation of the two philosophies has enabled scientists to create an ingenious design, wherein the robot can learn without human interference. The basic idea is to train the robot like how people teach kids the rules of ‘right and wrong’. The result was an AI that reacted the same way as kids. It was able to discern and understand what is right and what is not. The AI created by COSPAL is a giant leap into the future, where robots would be as intelligent as humans. The future, like they say, is here!
