NEC desktops are getting prone to fire as the company’s two desktop computers have caught fire since the late last year. The Electronics giant commented that the root cause of the problem is the faulty power units that are used in the computers.

The two computer that caught fire initially in October 2005 and the second one in November this year were both Valuestar computers that the company has made.

NEC commented that the problem lies in a component of the power unit that over heats if the system is used for a longer period of time without any breaks. These power units are not manufactured by the company but they have not given any clue on the company that is developing the faulty power units.

The Valuestar computers were manufactured by the company during November 2003 and June 2004 and around 14,600 computers of the same make are in use.

Taking some serious measures the company is offering to replace the power units of the computers that are in use.

Sony is also facing some problem with the laptop batteries and has recalled millions of batteries that could cause fires. On an estimate Sony is replacing 9.6 million batteries with new ones and the operation will cost $433 Million to the company.
