A recently published US patent application shows that Apple will introduce touch-sensitive interface for its new generation iPods.
The September 30, 2005 filing is titled “Proximity detector in handheld device.”
It describes a touch-screen interface for portable electronics devices that can sense an object, such as a person’s finger approaching the screen.
When an object is sensed, the touch-screen interface will display a “virtual scroll wheel,” navigation pad or virtual keypad. This will allow the user to use the touch screen and the wheel which appears to navigate through data in their hand-held.
This touch-screen interface can be used in future iPods from Apple and will do away with the click wheel which is a part of iPods these days.
