Apple's Mac Pro, Mini with Intel Sandy Bridge, Thunderbolt expected this August

A new round of rumors initiated by CNet’s leading tech journalist Brian Tong speculates upgrades for Apple’s popular Mac Pro and Mac Mini desktops in August 2011. Tong recently tweeted on his personal page that Apple is about to upgrade its Mac Pro and Mac Mini in two months. The revamped desktops will highlight Intel’s new generation Sandy Bridge CPUs and the high-speed Thunderbolt port.

“EXCLUSIVE: My sources tell me ALL NEW Next-Gen Mac Pros and Mac Minis will launch either end of July first week of August,” told the eminent writer of CNet on his Twitter profile. Tong has reportedly referred to an unidentified source, which amazingly was the same individual who correctly predicted iMac upgrades with Sandy Bridge and Thunderbolt for early May 2011. Apple later released iMac upgrades accordingly. That is why we cannot totally disbelieve the prediction from Brian. The new versions of Apple Mac Pro and Mac Mini may also be updated with Mac OS X Lion, the Mac OS update Apple CEO Steve Jobs divulged at its Worldwide Developer Conference 2011 early this month.

Apple finally upgraded Mac Pro in July 2010 and Mac Mini a month before that. It means that, as per Apple’s annual upgrade pattern of products, it is the time we can look forward for Mac Pro and Mini upgrades from the Cupertino technology leader. Mac Pro received 12 processing cores with Intel Xeon processors when it was updated last time. The new processor made the desktop computer 50 percent faster than its previous version. Apple also slotted in an HDMI port with its Mac Mini in June 2010.

Intel Sandy Bridge processors, launched by Intel in January, 2011, will enhance the performance of Mac Pro and Mini desktops. Intel Sandy Bridge stands for Intel’s next-gen CPU microarchitecture to realize great performance for devices. Intel Thunderbolt, a revolutionary high-speed port that offers 10 Gbps, was firstly launched on Apple MacBook Pro lineup upgrades in February 2011. With Thunderbolt ports, data transfer between computer and peripherals is possible in a matter of seconds. You can transfer a full-length HD film in less than 30 seconds using Thunderbolt ports, says Intel.

According Apple Insider, Apple is also getting ready to launch an upgrade for its celebrated MacBook Air laptops by July 2011. The company has been reportedly ready with the hardware upgrades for its MacBook Air, but was waiting for the launch of Mac OS X 10.7 Lion. On the whole, we can expect a call from Apple for a press event to announce its MacBook Air laptop upgrades anytime now.
