Apple working on alternative wireless charging concepts for iDevices

An accurate and reliable wireless charging concept is the requirement of the modern technology world. The leading technology innovator Apple has been spending much time to develop an improved method to recharge its devices wirelessly. That is why several of the company’s recent patent applications were related to various kind of wireless charging options. However, many of them, for example, the one for inductive charging using iPod headphones, look extremely impractical.

Apple is also reportedly making some researches in the efficiency of many alternative wireless-charging options like WiTricity’s famous magnetic resonance charging. WiTricity's charging method works placing an Apple iMac as a hub for charging. The desktop computer can wirelessly transfer power to its accessories like keyboard, mouse, and to the handheld devices such as smartphones and tablets via magnetic resonance charging.

Apple has recognized the technology WiTricity that was developed years back. The Cupertino technology company is now thinking of adopting the idea of making its desktop computers as a charging nucleus for its iDevices like iPad, iPhone and iPods. WiTricity’s wireless charging was developed by a team of researchers at MIT, led by Prof. Marin Soljacic in 2007. The specialty of the method is that you can recharge your handheld devices even placing in a couple of meters away from the power source, i.e. the desktop computer.

The idea of converting a desktop computer as a source for recharging is commendable indeed. It will help people recharge their devices in one effort and at a time. As long as people sit on the desktop computer, their handheld devices will be automatically recharged. More than anything, wireless charging option will do away the need for clumsy cables to recharge a device. This easy-to-use local computing environment will realize a great charging hub exactly how the Internet is connected with several devices via a Wi-Fi hotspot.
