Apple iPhone 4 ‘Antennagate’ a non-issue, free cases, software update on the way

Until Apple CEO Steve Jobs took the center stage at the press conference in Cupertino, staged by Apple to bring the entire iPhone 4 antenna saga to normalcy, the informative world had thousands of questions on the iPhone 4 they wanted answered.

And after 15 minutes of presentation, Jobs was on to answers – saying, “We’re not perfect. Phones aren’t perfect. We want to make all our users happy. We’re going to talk about how we’re going to do that.”

Then, explaining the problem of Antennagate on the feature-packed iPhone 4 — Jobs said “it doesn’t seem like a good idea if you touch your phone in a certain way and the bars go down. But one of the first things we learned: it’s certainly not unique to the iPhone.” And to this he showed BlackBerry Bold, HTC Droid Eris and Samsung Omnia 2 dropping signal bars like in the Apple iPhone 4 videos. He addded, there is a problem but it is so minute that it is affecting a very small percentage of iPhone 4 users, 0.55% to be exact.

A recall of the iPhone 4 wasn’t expected and we knew that. Thus, it was fitting that with the aforementioned elucidation Apple stated that the iPhone 4’s antenna or “death grip” is a non-issue. Yet, to compensate for the customers affected by the issue, Apple would offer free protective Bumper cases, which alleviate the iPhone 4’s reception problems caused by the connection of the user’s fingers and the phone’s antenna. Jobs also added that those who're sill not happy will be refunded to the value.

Further reiterating the claim “The iPhone 4 is perhaps the best product we’ve ever made at Apple.” Jobs touched upon the informed issue of problems with the proximity sensor on the iPhone 4. For this he confirmed that Apple is working on the software fix and could have it included in the next iOS update, but when’s that scheduled, well there’s no word.

Oh yes, we wanted a head’s up on the White iPhone 4, “they’ll start shipping at the end of July in limited quantities”, this is what Jobs had to say on it. Interested ones, can start boosting their accounts for the limited edition beauty.
