An unusual $44,000 musical sculpture only worth the commotion

This is the best paradigm of how to exploit public money for your own leisure and pleasure. English Folk Dance and Song Society handed musical sculptor Henry Dagg £27,000 (approx. $44,000) to build them three naturally powered sound sculptures that would grace the North London garden on completion, in about six months time. That wasn’t to be, and now three-and-a-half years down the line, one rather magnificent pin barrel harp a.k.a sharpsichord is ready, but it’s only worth a confined room, "a recipe for disaster to leave it outside." The barrel harp powered by two 50-watt silicone solar panels produces sound that’s much like a normal harp but with more vibrato. Great artifact, but just too expensive now for the purpose it was commissioned for.
