An electronic guitar with a flair for painting

Posted By: Vineet Chauhan | Jul 25 2009

You must have tried many a times, doing two things simultaneously. That’s kind of hard to do. But La Guitare à crayon, by Patrick Sébastien Coulombe, will make it a walk in a park for you. This guitar is solely designed for the purpose of painting and playing music at the same time, and that too from a single instrument.

La Guitare à crayon is a custom USB guitar that employs two open source applications, viz. Pure Data and Gimp, for generating sound and visual reproduction, respectively.

To create your own La Guitare à crayon you'll need:

# Accelerometer X-Axis (for example controlling the octave)

# Accelerometer Y-Axis (for example controlling an effect)

# 6 analog strings giving around 10 bits of resolution

# External input: 1 analog, 1 digital

# 4 position switch

# 8 buttons

# 4 pots

# 1 piezo with velocity filter (for example trigging any sound)

# 1 IR distance sensor (+-6cm - +-20cm)

# 1 unused LED (for tapping the bpm)

# Pressure-sensitive tablet

# Foot controller (using a led & a photoresistor)

# Foot switch (looper, change sound,)
