Amenbo - a five finger input device for sci-fi style computing

The ever innovative Japanese have made Minority Report style input process almost a reality by developing a five finger input device for complete hand recognition. Talented young and creative researchers from Japanese company Double Research and Development Co. have developed the input device known as ‘Amenbo’, which senses pressure and movements of individual fingers of a human hand. This new five finger mouse has the capability of tracking each and every minute movements of fingers and thumbs along with the capacity to recognize the pressures exerted on mouse by fingers and sending the same to the computer.

Amenbo even recognizes to which hand the fingers belong to if a person chooses to use both hands. This is made possible with the flexible printed mesh base that links the fingers of different shapes and sizes. Hand recognition is possible with the help of mouse sensor placed under each fingertip enabling the device to recognize the coordinates of each finger and also the downward pressure exerted by it. One can describe the device as robotic version of human hand.

We have other 3D image recognition system Kinect but it cannot detect human pressure exerted on it. In that way Amenbo is more than image recognition system as it also senses pressure exerted by each finger of human hand. Amenbo is designed in such a way so that it can be used for applications of 3D nature is a sure replacement for ordinary or 3D mouse. The device on windows 7 supports multi-touch operations with its present features. Still in the development stage, one is not sure when Amenbo hits the market or the cost of possessing the device.

Industry is waiting for Amenbo’s arrival as it simplifies many applications that make human fingers or hand recognition mandatory. Presently many robots are operated with the help of 3 fingers but Amenbo enable us to utilize entire hand simplifying the process. One can integrate major operations and finish at one click of Amenbo. Moreover it is a major boost to fields related to banks, security related organizations. This again proved that Japanese think out of box and make anything possible with their technological innovations.
