
AMD plans to enter the low cost PC market by the first half of 2009. Being driven by Intel Atom’s and Via Technologies’ Nano CPUs successes, AMD plans to enter the low cost CPU market. This could mean Intel will face a huge competition from AMD as AMDs processors are known for better graphics and is preferred by many gaming enthusiasts. AMD plans to base the low cost PC on K8’s architecture and will support 64 bit instructions. The CPUs are going to be a single core model and would have a frequency of 1.2 GHz. These CPUs are going to be manufactured on the company’s 65nm process. The low cost PC is going to be priced lesser than Atom and plans to find a huge market in China. Most people are looking forward to this PC as this could mean a further destabilizing of PC prices all over the world.
