If we talk about display interfaces, then DisplayPorts are the next level, which will set aside old, and grey VGA and DVI ports along with HDMI from the PCs. AMD has stepped ahead with graphics cards based on the RV635 core that includes the new DisplayPort technology. No need to explain the scope it carries for future generation monitors. What it offers in comparison to present technology is its micro-packet architecture with significantly more bandwidth and multi-monitor support over a single cable. It also offers support for 8-channel 24-bit audio along with dedicated auxiliary link for control communications of things like panel I/O and microphone connections.
This new technology is surely the center of interest for many big names like Dell, Samsung, but AMD did a fast work and got ready its first video card based on DisplayPort architecture called RV635 XT. The card was tested at Hothardware. However, it lacks the TMDS chips like the dual-link DVI-D connections. We may see something similar from NVIDIA within next year.
