AMD Fusion chip to compete with rivals
AMD is bracing up for severe competition from Intel, NVIDIA and Apple's new products and hence, has been planning exclusive products to face the competition. The 'half-node' CPU/GPU combo chip by AMD's fusion may be manufactured by contract chip manufacturer TSMC is based on the Fusion technology and has been named code-named Shrike. It plans to integrate a dual-core Phenom CPU and an ATI RV800 GPU core. AMD has sought time to integrate an advanced but low-end RV800-based core, which would consume less power thanks to a smaller 40nm process and also would have advanced graphics support thanks to DirectX 10.1. AMD is also planning to catch up with rivals Intel and IBM by launching a 32nm process in 2010. Looks like AMD has a lot of plans and might just become the next thing big thing and trounce it's rivals.
