In an effort to chop off power consumption and suck out the killing heat out of the systems, AMD has today introduced three new dual-core Opteron processor models.
1. Dual-Core AMD Opteron processor Model 885: Designed for up to 8-way/16-core enterprise-class servers
2. Dual-Core AMD Opteron processor Model 285: Designed for high performance 4-way/4-core workstations and servers
3. Dual-Core AMD Opteron processor Model 185: Designed for 1-way/2-core servers and workstations
As per AMD standards all the models guarantees highest performance for x86 servers and are less power consuming, as the Dual-Core AMD Opteron processors can handle more servers while under same power and thermal infrastructure as compared to a single-core AMD Opteron processors resulting in low cost.
AMD claims that the processors equipped with AMD PowerNow Technology cut CPU power consumption by up to 75 per cent.
IBM, Sun Microsystems and HP are planning to imbibe the latest technology at the latest in their systems.
Price:
Model 885: $2149 (£1224) in 1000-unit quantities
Model 285: $1051 (£598) in 1000-unit quantities
