AirCheck to bust illegal child pornography on Wi-Fi

Child pornography is a punishable crime. However, there are offenders who are least bothered about the fact. To counter the hideous acts of such lawbreakers, cops have come up with a ‘one-button interface’ to combat the problem. The gadget named as ‘Air check’, smartly locates the crime of child pornography on Wi-Fi or wireless network. It does not only track down child pornography, but other illegal internet activities also.

‘Crimes against Children Conference' saw Fluke networks announce that the police is now making use of an interface which works on just one button. A ‘one key’ press will record all details for configuration, access points, channel usage and connection details for documentation. The technology is expected to help the police in cornering down the suspect. However, there is a process involved. The cops, after driving to the suspected location and identifying all the wireless networks in range, will check if the network inside the suspect’s location is secured or not. This can be done by decoding the signals from the device’s directional antenna. If it is secured then the police can barge in confidently, since it is the offender only who is downloading the illegal content from a secured network. However, if it is open or unsecured, chances are high that he/she is stealing Wi-Fi from an unsecured network. In such a case, an innocent person might get busted up.

The one phrase that Fluke has been constantly emphasizing on is ‘Know Before You Go’, to explain this. This is to save the damages done by busting into an innocent person’s residence. The best way to cope with it is to lock the suspect’s device and graph it in order to locate it. AirCheck’s law enforcement evaluation guide helps with locating and graphing the signal strength. The best results are shown when the offender is downloading videos or large images.

Apart from cracking on the child porn offenders, this device has successfully helped the law enforcement to investigate other illegal internet activities like identity theft, phishing scams and internet stalking. Sergeant Dave Mathers from CA police department says that they don’t have to go (at the suspect’s place) blindly anymore, anywhere.
