Automotive engineering has seen all sorts of changes in exteriors, interiors, designs, engines etc, but the basic nature of the Accelerator, Brake and Clutch pedals has remained the same. But that gap between the Accelerator and the Brake didn’t somehow appeal much to Masuyuki Naruse, a 74-year-old Japanese who has thus invented a very novel Gas-and-Brake Pedal, which is one pedal for both tasks.

Sounds confusing and scary, therefore it’s important to know how this is possible. The Naruse pedal accelerates when the right side of the pedal is pushed but when the centre of the pedal is pushed, as we would in today’s cars, this pedal then functions as the brake and brings the vehicle to a halt. The $1,156 Naruse pedal could change the way most people, only if the people can adapt to it, to test the human instinct on his contraption Naruse has signed up 130 car-drivers to test his pedal.
