Japanese law and order is all set to experience a technological blessing in the form of a robot whose soul mission is to help the police catch absconding criminals and put them behind the bars.
Created by the Society of Japanese security services, Alsok, the robot is equipped with a face recognition device and comes pre-loaded with an extensive database of individuals wanted by the law. The robot will be used in the security of sensitive and crowded areas like airports and shopping malls. Whenever the prying eyes of the android recognizes a face that matches to its database, it will take a photograph and immediately report to the police control room.
According to Alsok, the technologically advanced robot will be of great help in tracking down terrorists and other individuals wanted by the police. The concept appears to come out straight from the plot of a sci-fi film. Anyway, the robot is yet to pass the acid test before it is formally inducted into the Japanese security services.
